U.S.-China Relations: Implications for the Mountain West

November 5 @ 8:30 am 3:15 pm MST

The National Committee on U.S.-China Relations (NCUSCR), a U.S.-funded, nonpartisan nonprofit, the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT), and the Denver Council on Foreign Relations (DCFR) cordially invite you to attend U.S.-China Relations: Implications for the Mountain West— a forum for regional, state, and local leaders and officials that will explore the potential impacts of Washington’s China policies on local communities throughout the region, share best practices for engaging with Chinese and Taiwanese counterparts, and analyze potential security concerns and strategies to mitigate risk.

The full-day briefing will take place at the German American Chamber of Commerce – Colorado Chapter (1123 Auraria Pkwy suite 100, Denver, CO 80204) and run from 8:30 am to 3:15 pm on Wednesday, November 5.

Briefing topics to include:

  • China’s economic trajectory
  • Federal trade and investment policies RE China and Taiwan
  • U.S.-China tech competition – AI/quantum, aerospace, green tech, and critical minerals
  • Navigating U.S-China-Taiwan relations
  • National security concerns and malign influence

The program seeks to engage and inform stakeholders from the mountain west region whose work interfaces with China and Taiwan — perhaps through trade, investment, and business development, higher education, technology policy or international exchange — by bringing them together to learn from one another and connect with subject matter experts. The mission is not to promote any policies but to help educate stakeholders in their decision making.

This briefing is one component of Subnational Connect, a Henry Luce Foundation-funded, new NCUSCR initiative that brings together important stakeholders within a specific region of the country to discuss the potential implications of the U.S.’s evolving relationships with China and Taiwan on the local economies and communities. For Subnational Connect—Mountain West, NCUSCR is partnering with institutions throughout the Denver area to host briefings, roundtable discussions, and public forums.

With limited funds, NCUSCR encourages individuals whose organizations are able to pay their travel and lodging expenses to do so. For those without organizational funding, travel and lodging expenses for one person from your organization will be covered. All other costs are included.

To RSVP to the briefing, transfer the invitation to a colleague, or ask any follow-up questions, please reply all to Jessica Bissett (jbissett@ncuscr.org) and Aaron Nicholson (anicholson@ncuscr.org) by October 31. A draft agenda is available here for reference. For more information about NCUSCR, OEDIT and DCFR, please see below.
